  • Columbus Diocese 150th Anniversary Tree Planting

    In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of Columbus, they are encouraging all parishes to plant at least one tree in recognition of the historic milestone. The commitment should be done before April 22nd, Earth Day, when Bishop Cambpell will celebrate Mass to recognize the anniversary. The Diocese is also offering a Blessing of a Tree that can be downloaded.

  • 50th Earth Day Observance with Global Religious and Indigenous Leaders

    A webinar to observe the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day will begin at 10:30 am CDT on April 21st, 2020. This event is hosted by the Parliament of World's Religions, the Earth Day Network, and Faith for Earth at UN Environment. Opening remarks will be by Faith for Earth and the Parliament of World’s Religions. Then, the following presenters will speak: Gopal Patel - Director of the Bhumi Project; Hellen Mugo – representative of the Catholic Youth Network for Environmental Sustainability in Africa; Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim - Environmental activist working on behalf of her people, the Mbororo in Chad; Lauren Van Ham - Interfaith minister and Climate Action Coordinator at United Religions Initiative; Lyla June - Native American environmental scientist, doctoral student, from the Diné (Navajo) community; and Mirele Goldsmith – Founder of the Jewish Earth Alliance.

  • Anamchara Faith Community Celebrates Earth Day 2016

    This year, the Anamchara Faith Community will be providing an Earth Day celebration in the woods at Bernheim Forest in Bullitt County, Kentucky. The service will include biblical passages that give honor to the importance of trees, with the plan to plant at least one during this time. This service will draw from different faiths and cultures, ranging from the Catholic faith to Native American customs and traditions.

  • OSU Prepares to Host Earthkeeping Summit on Sept. 24, 2016

    On Saturday, September 24, 2016 The School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) will co-host the 2016 Earthkeeping Summit with Ohio Interfaith Power and Light, the Methodist Theological School in Ohio, and multiple community and university partners. The Summit provides resources and inspiration for the creation care work of Ohio faith communities, and will be held at the Nationwide 4-H Center on OSU’s Columbus campus. Keynote speaker, Dr. Melanie L. Harris of Texas Christian University, will address the Summit’s themes of hope and renewal in environmental justice work, and panels and workshops will follow to highlight current examples of creation care work across Ohio faith communities.

  • Earth Keeping Summit: There is a Balm… Eco Justice, Renewal and Hope

    The Earth Keeping Summit 2016 was held at the Ohio State University, School of Environment and Natural Resources. The summit went deeper than the importance of recycling, shutting off your lights and using less energy, and addressed questions of ecology, justice, and race. Dr. Melanie Harris was the keynote speaker of the event and also spoke on the importance of sharing stories. She is an Associate Professor of Religion at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.

    Dr. Harris spoke of the importance of diversity in ecology and how social justice relates to the environmental movement. She talked about how sharing our stories and experiences plays a part in taking care of the environment and having a connection to the environment and to each other. In this environmental movement we must listen. We must reflect on our experiences. We must take race, class and gender very seriously. She gave the example of Eric Garner whose life was taken by police but before that he struggled with asthma. Melanie talked about our air and how the earth is barely breathing. When we heal our earth we will then heal ourselves.

    Earth connection begins by sitting with difference. Sitting with nature and seeing things in a different kind of lens.

  • Faith Climate Action Week

    Previously known as Preach-In, Faith Climate Action Week is put on by Interfaith Power & Light from April 17th- 23rd. This campaign focuses on climate healing and action with an entire week of activities around Earth Day. This years theme is Act on Climate with an emphasis on how to take action to protect climate laws. There are events all over the country and there are more being added continuously.

  • Earth Day 2017 – Environmental Justice with Indigenous Peoples

    Creation Justice Ministries is celebrating Earth Day 2017 by focusing on environmental justice with indigenous people. They believe that the Christian communities living in the United States have an important role to play in developing relationships of solidarity with indigenous people. They will be offering sermon preparation resources, hymn suggestion, Christian education ideas, action opportunities, and more. They also note that these resources will be helpful to Indigenous People Day which is October 9, 2017.

  • Event: Family Fun for a Clean Planet

    The youth at First Presbyterian Church in Delaware are celebrating Earth Day on Sunday, April 23 from 11:30-2:00 at Blue Limestone Park with games nature walks and recycled artwork.

  • Interfaith Day of Community Service

    Columbus Global Academy is holding an event on Earth Day, April 22nd, from 12:30 to 4:30. People of all faiths and cultures are invited to attend and participate in a day of community service and fellowship. The goal of this service day is to make the school building a more welcoming environment for the wide variety of students. Projects will include painting and gardening in the courtyards and helping to construct a soccer field for students to use. A community potluck and celebration with music will follow the work portion of the day.

  • EPN Signature Earth Day Event - Monday, April 22, 2024: Eat This Earth Day! Ohio's Native Plants for Food

    "Ohio State’s Environmental Professionals Network, in collaboration with the Chadwick Arboretum and Learning Gardens and native plant enthusiasts from across the state, proudly invite you to eat and drink from Ohio’s native plants this Earth Day! Discover through your senses, the edible flora of the Buckeye State. Over long periods of history, through the tastes, smells, and eyes of diverse native wildlife and human cultures, both ancient and present, these plants have sustained life."

    This event will take place on Earth Day, April 22, 2024 from 4:45 pm to 7:30 pm. Admission is free and the event will be held at the Fawcett Center in Columbus, Ohio. Food and drinks will be provided.
