OSU Creates Opportunity to Support Food Security Efforts in Ohio and Ghana
In association with Cardinal Peter Turkson’s visit to OSU and his presentation with OSU President Michael Drake at Mershon Auditorium on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at 7:00pm, 100% of ticket proceeds will go towards supporting urban gardening projects in Columbus and in Accra, Ghana.
If you would like to make a donation to support these projects beyond the donation made to reserve your ticket for the Nov. 2 event, please make donation checks payable to “The Ohio State University” and indicate on the memo line: “For Columbus-Ghana Urban Gardening Projects” and send checks to:

The Blessing of Bikes
In recent history, a new event has been occurring all over the world. In an attempt to generate environmental awareness, various congregations of different faiths have encouraged their members to commute to church via bicycle. This movement has often been stimulated by a blessing of bikes ceremony. Special services have been held in churches and temples all over the world to bless the bikes, keep the cyclists safe, and remember those who have died in accidents.
They are hosting a virtual blessing May 9th, 2020 during the COVID-19 Pandemic, details can be found on their website. -
Seven Congregations of Dominican Women Collaborate to Offer Sept. 10 Earth Stewardship Program in Columbus
The Dominican Alliance Eco-Justice Committee is offering "Falling in Love with Earth Again" from 9:00am-3:00pm on Saturday, September 10 at the Martin de Porress Center in Columbus, OH. In the words of the organizers, the program will provide various avenues to “remind us of who we are as a part of this living Earth and renew our embodied human selves. Spend time with others pondering, celebrating, and creating your loving connection with Earth.” -
Hitzhusen to Deliver Lecture on Spirituality and Sustainability on Sept. 20 in Sylvania, OH
The Science Alliance for Valuing the Environment, an “educational consortium for environmental concerns” affiliated with Lourdes University in Sylvania, OH, will host Dr. Greg Hitzhusen to deliver a lecture on “Spirituality and Sustainability: Hope for All Creation” at the Franciscan Center from 7:30-9:00pm on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Today is registration deadline for Columbus Diocese Creation Care Conference on Oct. 8
The Columbus Diocese is offering a day of reflection, inspiration, study, and sharing of resources to help Columbus area Catholic communities respond to Pope Francis’ environmental urgings in his recent encyclical, Laudato Si: Caring for Our Common Home. The conference: “Enlivened by Laudato Si’: We Care for our Common Home: Our practical response to care for God’s creation” will be held at the Martin De Porres Center in Columbus from 10am-2pm on Saturday, October 8.
The conference will feature creation care team building sessions, spirituality and worship, education, sustainability information for energy savings, and advocacy to care for creation and the poor. Dr. Greg Hitzhusen of the School of Environment and Natural Resources at Ohio State will deliver a keynote address. -
Shepherd's Fest (Shepherd's Corner)
Shepherd's Corner ecological center provides information regarding their annual festival on their webpage:
"Explore our food pantry gardens, take a hayride around the property, meet our sheep, and walk the meditation trail & labyrinth. Savor delicious food from a local food truck (Moody Trudy). Meet the Jefferson Township fire department and check out a fire truck up close. Watch Gail Maraman, a local felt artist, demonstrate her art. Chat with AEP representatives about electricity savings, consider more responsible energy use with Columbia gas. and learn about the environmental efforts of Green Spot Columbus. We will have a farm stand featuring of our naturally grown produce, 2019 maple syrup, and crafts made by the Dominican Sisters of Peace and volunteers." -
Annual 5K Fundraiser (Shepherd's Corner)

Race check in and number pickup begins at 8:00 am. Pets are not allowed at the race.
"Partner with us in feeding the hungry. We are committed to donating 60-65% of our naturally grown produce to local food pantries. Proceeds from the race will benefit our food pantry gardens.

Shepherd's Corner volunteer opportunities
Shepherd's Corner offers volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups as indicated on their website:
"Volunteer With Us
Volunteer opportunities at Shepherd’s Corner are as abundant as the fruits of the earth. We invite individuals and groups to share in our ministry of caring for the land. All sorts of skills are needed or come to learn some new ones. One time visits, work on special projects, or regularly scheduled participation are welcome.
Group Projects
Groups are invited for a half day of service on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. We ask for one adult per 10 youth under 18 years.
Individual Volunteers
Come for a weekly or monthly time or fill in as needed. Individuals will need to complete our volunteer application. The application is the last to pages of the preceding link. We will ask individuals for background screening since we often have minors present. Volunteers must be age 13 or older; volunteers for animal chores must be age 18 or older." -

2023 Feast of St. Francis: The Way of Francis: Seeking Peace & Justice for All Creation
"This year’s program is designed to assist you, your family, parish, school, diocese, religious community, or other Catholic institution learn about Catholic nonviolence, and the "Franciscan" call to seek peace and justice for all of creation. The need to answer this call has become more and more urgent, as our planet, and our most vulnerable brothers and sisters, are living the consequences of climate change and its associated economic and social disruptions. The 90-minute program enables U.S. Catholics to host in-person or virtual sessions to grow in their understanding and call to care for creation as integral to the Catholic faith through prayer, education and action."
